I was found some interesting information a couple of days ago regarding how Google ranks a webpage or blog. Marketing your writing business takes a lot of work. You spend a lot of time ensuring your clients are happy and then you spend a lot of time trying to please the Google Gods.
These are a few of the algorithms used in calculating a website or blog ranking by Google:
-
Page Title – keywords or phrases include and at least 3 -5 words long
-
Headings – keywords in at least the first two sections
-
Link Text – keywords included
-
Page Rank – yes, this does have factor
-
Heading Tags – keywords and phrases rich
-
Alternate Tags – keywords, heading tags, and content are aligned
-
Domain Name – keyword friendly and aligned with other keywords in website
-
File Names – keyword friendly and aligned with website content
-
Directory Names – aligned with website content
-
Keyword Density – heavy up front however does not exceed 5%
-
Link Popularity – links to and from other related quality websites, especially those used in Yahoo or MSN. This promotes cross search engine rankings.
This confirms why there is a lot of work involved in trying to keep your Freelance writer website and blog in front of potential customers.

Your listing of what makes up an alogrithm and what writers must consider is a good summary of what I’ve been studying recently.
I have 2 blogs — one I renamed and one I just started — to practice being more SEO friendly. Writers need this technical knowledge to compete.
